Well Child Tamariki Ora
Free health checks for children from birth to 5 years. These checks help identify any health or developmental concerns early.
The Well Child Tamariki Ora programme includes:
- Regular health and development checks
- Immunisations
- Hearing and vision screening
- Support and advice for parents and caregivers
School-based health services
Nurses and health workers visit schools to provide health checks, immunisations, and support for students.
School-based services include:
- Year 9 health checks (HEEADSSS assessment)
- School vaccination programmes
- Mental health and wellbeing support
- Referrals to specialist services
Youth health services
Specific services for young people aged 12-24, including mental health support, sexual health, and general health care.
Youth-friendly services are available at many general practices and community health centres. These services are confidential and often free or low-cost.

Free immunisations are available for all children in New Zealand. The National Immunisation Schedule covers vaccines from birth through to age 12.
Your general practice or Well Child provider will remind you when your child is due for their next immunisations.
